About
Welcome to Tokyo Morvélo CC.
Tokyo Morvélo CC is a unique collaboration between London cycle store Kinoko Cycles and Brighton-based clothing company Morvélo Bicycle Apparel. Both are heavily focused on the love of bicycles, cycle racing and craftsmanship. It’s this shared passion for cycling and design that has inspired the launch of a fresh new cycling club for London and the South East. For the time being, we will be restricting membership to the UK only. Membership is open to anyone in the UK, but we would like to point out that group and training rides will primarily be leaving from London and Brighton.

Ethos
Tokyo Morvélo CC is a cycle club primarily aimed at riders and racers across road, track and cyclocross disciplines but we have a wide-ranging interest across all forms of cycling. We would like to welcome riders of any age and gender, from novice through to expert. We want to build a reputation for being an enthusiastic, friendly and inclusive club and for being an invaluable resource for anyone who wants to take a step up in their cycling.
We believe in power in numbers – so whether it’s simply joining in with organised group rides to meet up with like-minded people, gearing up on your existing training with other motivated riders or if you have aspirations to race and compete and want to draw on the experience of others within the club, you’ll find a home here. Tokyo Morvélo CC will open the door to new possibilities and experiences and give you the confidence you need to get you on the right track.
We have a huge list of contacts and resources to draw on that will enable us to present a varied and interesting events calendar. So if you want to break out the track bike we will cater for that with sociable fixed gear rides in and around the city. If road is your passion then we’ll show you where to go with organised club rides as well as trips and excursions to places you may never get to go to without the support and expertise of a club. At the same time, we will actively welcome ideas and contributions from our members around the organisation of rides, races and events – the success of Tokyo Morvélo CC will depend on our members sharing information and letting others know about the rides and events we are involved in.

F.A.Q.
Will I need a racing license to join?
You won’t need a racing license to join the cycling club or come along to club rides, socials or associated events – if you do wish to race then Tokyo Morvélo CC is registered and affiliated with British Cycling - you can choose us as your chosen club on registering with BC.
How much is club membership?
Membership to Tokyo Morvélo CC is £15 – this includes a free Tokyo Morvélo CC cap.
How can I join Tokyo Morvélo CC?
You can join Tokyo Morvélo CC in person by visiting the Kinoko Cycles shop on Golden Square, London, W1 and filling out our registration form – you can also pick up any team kit you might like at the shop. Alternatively you can register here on our website and we will contact you with any information you might need to get started with riding with us.
What standard should I be to join?
You don’t need to be an Olympic athlete to join Tokyo Morvélo CC but we do look for members who are comfortable at riding at a reasonably fast pace and who are keen to notch up a few miles on the road with an eye on improving overall riding skill. There will never be any pressure to compete but we will be looking to promote the idea of trying out racing to those members with an interest in the sporting side of club cycling.
Are there any club rules or guidelines for conduct?
Our club rides and events are about sociable riding and are aimed at enthusiastic cyclists looking to ride out with like-minded people. Non-members are welcome to come along and have one or two taster rides with us to see what we are like but if you do want to regularly join us on our rides you will be expected to join Tokyo Morvélo CC.
All club riders must follow the Highway Code at all times when riding with Tokyo Morvélo CC or in Tokyo Morvélo CC team kit. This includes: riding no more that two abreast and riding in single file to allow traffic to pass on narrow roads, obeying traffic lights and signs, not riding on pavements and not abusing other road users, however tempting that may be.
You will be expected to turn up at rides reasonably well prepared – your bike should be well maintained and you should aim to carry some basic kit in case of the usual mishaps such as punctures e.g. a pump and a spare tube, fully working front and rear lights for nightrides, some spare cash for refreshments at pit stops, a phone etc… There will always be someone available to help you with mechanicals should you need it.
Our group rides will be made up of some mixed abilities – stronger riders must therefore always wait for any slower riders with the key rule here being keeping the group together at all times. No one gets dropped. If there is a large group on any particular ride, we will always consider breaking the group into two parts to allow for the more serious training needs of any stronger riders and for a second group to ride at a more comfortable pace. Generally we will find a pace to suit the whole group.
Open communication will always be key. If you have a particular event that you need to concentrate on training for then please let us know. We can tailor our riding schedule to accommodate your training needs. Likewise regarding any special needs you may have, please always let us know so we can stay prepared.
Where can I find out about any planned club rides and races?
We will publish and update an events calendar here on the site as well as updating the club blog with news about any upcoming events. As well as a dedicated, members-only Facebook page that members can visit to keep in touch and find out about proposed club rides etc, we may also send out group e-mails with ride invites, club news and other business relating to the club.
Who organises rides?
Group rides will always be led by a Tokyo Morvélo CC ride leader. We will also aim to publish any routes beforehand so that members have a good idea of the length of a particular ride and the extent to how challenging a particular route may be. Club members will always be encouraged to share their ideas on potential rides and races – we want to be able offer as much support and encouragement as we can to potential ride organisers to enable the club to offer a varied and interesting events calendar and range of riding experiences.
