The R838 is De Rosa's attempt to build an entry level carbon race bike. What they've managed to do, however, is build a thoroughbred Italian classic at an entry level price. Perfectly at home racing, or on a Sportif, or even just a long, leisurely ride, the R838 expresses all of De Rosa's impressive cycling heritage.
The Carbon Monocoque frame, like all good carbon, absorbs the majority of road vibration, but the design of the frame features a number of elements that would only usually be found on high-end bikes. The flattened top tube eliminates lateral twist, keeping the handling precise at high speeds or through quick turns, where as the huge downtube is ovalised for aerodynamics, as well as joining merging in to the burly bottom bracket area. The bottom bracket uses the BB30 system, which hugely increases stiffness, so you don't lose any power through the cranks. Combine the stiffness of the frame and the profile of the tubing with a tapered headset, the frame stays completely stable regardless of speed or road surface.
This R838 comes in a new black on carbon stealth colour scheme, which matches perfectly with the 105 groupset. The 10-speed 105 borrows its technology from higher-end Shimano groupsets, and delivers fantastic and dependable performance with a compact chainset for any kind of terrain you're likely to encounter. The 3T wheels are tough as nails, and whilst they're not the lightest, they'll take a beating from potholes and stay rolling, especially with the Conti UltraSport tyres.
An amazing bike for anyone looking to start racing, ride far or just spin around with a smile on your face. The R838 provides the quality you'd expect from a Italian racing frame, without the price-tag that frequently goes with it.

De Rosa lay claim to a heritage as rich as that of Cinelli or Colnago. Born in Turin during the boom of cycling design in the early 1950's, Ugo De Rosa quickly rose to prominence as one of the most respected builders in Italy. Used by such illustrious names as Moser, Van Looy, Merckx, the iconic heart-shaped cut-out has been featured on the podium of almost every major race in European cycling.
Heritage like that doesn't develop on its own. De Rosa frames are so well regarded because De Rosa have always pushed the boundaries of frame and material design. One of the earliest adopters of Ti and Aluminium in the early 90's, the modern De Rosa bikes have taken long years of development and created some truly stunning frames, comparable in quality to the masterful steel of their early bikes . All hand-made in De Rosa's factory in Milanino, the care and attention in each frame is immediately evident. Whatever frame or material you choose, any De Rosa is bound to be one of the nicest bikes you could ever own.
