Aerospoke
Ed Giroux used his love for cycling and experience as a machinist and mold-maker to start Aerospoke wheels in 1988, making them one of the first composite wheel-builders in the world. Still working in Milford, Michigan, Aerospoke now makes wheels for every conceivable requirement, from BMX wheels all the way up to Horse Scully racing. The benefits of a composite wheel like the Aerospoke are obvious - the aerodynamic shape helps you slip through the air, whilst the stiffness of the composite maximises power transfer without having the wheel deform under the pressure. The wheels are also incredibly rugged, not needing to be trued or maintained. The aluminium hubs are 7050 grade, the sealed bearings are easy to replace, and Aerospoke also use velocity rims, already respected by fixed gear riders, to build their wheels on to, meaning they can operate both as a no-nonsense commuting wheel or as a fast race wheel. Whist the wheels have many performance advantaged over traditional spoked wheels, they also come in a staggering range of colours and graphics to match any frame or design - due to this and many other reasons, the 5 spoke design has become iconic.
