Company: Like Feather Cycles, Donhou is part of the new breed of British based steel frame builders. We first saw Tom Donhou’s bikes at Bespoked Bristol 2011 and were blown away by the immaculate finish and clever design work he puts into each one of his bikes. Each build is a conceptual project in itself, often with many contributing features which seamlessly flow into one amazing looking machine. Tom doesn’t stop at just the manufacturing of the frame. He often designs and builds components and frame features to go with the bikes and paints his frames in-house. You can’t get much more custom than a Donhou bike.
Accolades: Donhou Cycles won ‘Best of Show’ at Bespoked Bristol 2011 and, maybe more importantly, the Peers Award, being voted ‘Best in Show’ by the judges and also by the other frame builders. Tom was also one of a handful of builders selected to build a Rapha UK Continental bike. Press reviews and show awards, whilst important, don’t really convey just how unique Donhou bikes are.
Ordering a Donhou: All of Tom’s bikes are fully custom, and as such there are no models or stock frames to reference. Building a Donhou bike is a collaboration between the builder’s artistry and your requirements, and as such there would be little point in benchmarks to adhere to. Lead times are dependent on the features, but expect a 3 month wait. It’s a lot like waiting for Christmas.
Custom Options: Tom works with high end Reynolds or Columbus tubing, and constructs custom forks, stems and handlebars as well as frames. However, the real highlight of a Donhou frame is the unique features, from one-off chain guards to the custom brake bridges. This is a just a taster of the custom options available.
