Opening in 1995 after the closure of Fat City Cycles, Indy Fab started in the old factory and with many of the old members of that pioneering mountain bike company. The second is their drive towards modern materials and manufacturing. Indy Fab describe their work as a cross between alchemy and engineering, and their frames carry this comparison out. Their meticulous attention to detail, regardless of whether that’s a steel cross bike or a titanium and carbon road bike, and their understanding that it’s millimeter differences that can transform a bike from pedestrian to heavenly makes Indy Fab look and ride like nothing else.
Accolades: Indy Fab are the only company to have been awarded Bicycling Magazines ‘Best Dream Road Bike’ twice. In consecutive years. In an industry like cycling, where yearly improvements in technology and design are de rigueur, this is no mean feat. The North American Hand-made Bicycle Show (NAHBS) awarded Indy Fab the Best Tig Welded Frame award in 2011. Other reviews have praised the “perfect” geometry, calling Indy Fab bikes “a absolute joy to ride” and “a work of art”. Rapha chose Independent Fabrication to be one of the four frame builders to engage in their first Bicycle Collection, the IF XS proving its mettle against a course inspired by Anquetil’s ‘Crazy Bet’.
