Women’s cycling at Kinoko

During the last few years, women’s cycling has had an incredible boom. Olympians and professional cyclists such as Victoria Pendleton CBE, Shanaze Reade and Marianne Vos have inspired a new generation of women to get on their bikes. The Mule Bar Girls team run women’s track sessions at Herne Hill Velodrome on Sundays and co-ed cycling clubs such as London Hardcourt Bike Polo are encouraging more women to get involved in the sport. In addition, the number of women commuting and riding for leisure has increased dramatically. The cycling industry has struggled to keep up with this huge increase of female cyclists and their ever increasing demands for variety in fit, shape and colour.

Here at Kinoko, we have sought out brands that we believe offer the best when it comes to performance, comfort and style rather than brands who just add a women’s line onto their range as an afterthought. Gone are the days when women’s cycling apparel only came ‘shrinked and pinked’! Castelli clothing is designed and developed by women and because of that their cut and fit is second to none. Although some pieces have hints of femininity, none of the practicality is compromised. Gilets, jerseys, shorts, knickers and rain jackets make up our current range with leisure and more serious cyclists catered for. The windproof and water repellent Leggera W jacket weighs a mere 110g, their lightest jacket to date!

Vulpine burst onto the market last year, catering for cyclists with a penchant for the finest Tasmanian merino wool and sharp tailored practical pieces. Their women’s range has been tested on over 200 cyclists. We currently stock the full Vulpine range, including the Merino cycling jerseys and t-shirts which are cut for the female shape and not sized down. We are also looking forward to the release of the women’s trousers and jackets which offer the same technical features as the mens but are nipped and tucked accordingly to offer the best fit. We also stock gorgeous clothes from Cafe du Cycliste, who marry performance pieces with chich French style in both their mens and women’s lines.

We’re also stocking bikes from Trek’s Lexa series, which have women’s specific geometry and excellent spec for women looking to take their road cycling to the next level. The SLX has the same IsoSpeed isolated seatpost as the Paris-Roubaix winning Trek Domane, ideal for comfortable riding with no sacrifice to stiffness. It’s important to note that lots of ‘men’s’ bikes are perfectly suited to female riders, depending on geometry, but the Lexa’s are designed with relative differences in women’s anatony in mind.

We will be constantly updating and renewing our women’s range, and will be bringing in some well regarded women’s parts such as the Fizik R5 Donna and the Sella Italia Lady Gel Flow. We’ve dedicated an area on our website especially for women’s clothing, parts and bikes, and will continue to announce and review women’s products. We’re commited to making cycling equal in terms of participation and competition. If you need any advice on clothing to get riding, or parts to improve the comfort of your current ride; our staff are well versed in our range of stock and improving your cycling, be that getting to work or improving wattage for the track.
